Description
:
Today Kokopelli is often a symbol of fertility. Kokopelli was an actual person, a rain maker , who traveled with a pack on his back ( hence the humpbacked portrayal) his flute, which he used to call up the rain clouds. He also wore a head dress of Red Macaw feathers. His route ranged from Central America up into the Four Corners region of the US.
It was party time when he arrived as the rain he called up on his flute insured that crops would grow . Usually about nine months after his visit, there was a population explosion in the tribe, due to the drinking and celebrating his arrival, hence the symbol of fertilty.
